Sometimes you’re working on a case and an attorney needs to be added on the fly. It used to be that you had to create a filing, but at MyFileRunner we do this within a few clicks so you can move on with your day. Let’s explore how.
First, click on “File the Courts.” Next, click on the button that says “File Into an Existing Case.” Then select your location — in our example today, we’re selecting Bastrop District Clerk.
Next, search by case number. Enter your case number in the box and click the Search button. The case will populate and you’ll see a row of information including the case location (Bastrop District Court), the case number, and the case type (Other Civil). You’ll also see three icons: a blue eyeball for View, a green people icon for Manage Service Contact, and a red icon for File Into This Case. Today we’re going to click on the Manage Service Contacts button.
Once the screen populates, you’ll see a Search for Service Contact section. You can search for opposing counsel by first name, last name, firm name, or email, then click Search for Attorney. Today we’re selecting from existing firm contacts. You’ll also see an option to Add New Service Contact to Firm, but you won’t need that today.
Select your firm contact by checking the box next to the appropriate attorney. You’ll then be given options to attach the service contact to a specific part of the case — the plaintiff, the defendant, or the overall case. In our example, we’re selecting the plaintiff. Once you’ve made your selection, press OK.
You’ll now see that the service contact has been attached to the case, showing the attorney’s name, firm, email address, who they’re representing, and a row of action icons. Your attorney has been added and you’re good to go — happy filing!
